(July 23, 2025-WolfvilleNS) Katie Campbell and William Spurr of Spurr Brothers Farm located at Wilmot NS, were named Atlantic’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2025. The Regional event was held July 20-21, at Luckett Winery in Wolfville NS, with sponsors and alumni in attendance. Katie & William will go on to represent Atlantic at Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers competition November 2025 in Toronto.
Spurr Brothers Farm is prominent, fifth-generation family farm located in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, specifically in Melvern Square and Wilmot. The farm was established in 1875 growing apples, hay, and grains on 62 acres of land. Over the generations, the farm has expanded significantly and now encompasses roughly 800 acres of orchards and farmland, producing more than 20 varieties of apples, as well as strawberries, onions, potatoes, and forage crops.
Katie Campbell with her cousins, William Spurr and Lisa Jenereax, currently manage various aspects of the business. Katie oversees much of the business administration, including the packing house and market.
William manages potatoes, onions, carrots, cover crops, and has launched a hard cider division using farm-grown ingredients and his sister Lisa is the orchard specialist, responsible for innovations in fruit varieties and orchard management.
Spurr Brothers Farms also runs a modern farm market and taproom, offering products grown on-site as well as goods from other local producers and small businesses. The farm is well-known for its commitment to high-quality, locally grown produce and for being a longstanding advocate for Nova Scotia agriculture.

Ryan Mercer, Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer Program’s Vice President attended the event and made this comment, “A very well organized and attended regional event highlighting strawberry and fresh cut flower production alongside Canada’s finest vineyards! The new honourees Katie Campbell and William Spurr of Spurr Brothers Farms with their market garden farm and taproom will represent the Atlantic region very well in Toronto!”
Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers competition is an annual competition aimed at rewarding the farmers who demonstrate excellence in their profession and promoting agriculture’s huge contribution. Open to participants aged 18 to 39 years old, whose major source of income comes from agricultural sources, participants are selected from seven regions in Canada, and two national winners are chosen each year. The program is sponsored nationally by Agriculture Canada, CIBC, John Deere, Bayer, Sollio Agriculture, Meridian Manufacturing, and CN with medias sponsors Glacier FarmMedia, and WS and video sponsor Bamboo Shoots. It is supported nationally by BDO and Dieno Digital.
Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers of 2025 will be chosen during the national competition that will be held in Toronto, ON, from November 27th to 30th 2025.
