(March 17th 2025 – Elkhorn, MB) Darren & Allison Hueging of Current Holsteins located at Woodlands, were named Manitoba’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2025. The Regional event was held at the Elkhorn Resort on March 14-15 with dignitaries, sponsors and alumni in attendance. The Hueging’s will go on to represent Manitoba at Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers competition November 2025 in Toronto.
While studying in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba, Darren and Allison met in 2005, married in 2011 and they moved onto Current Holsteins.
Current Holsteins was established when Darren Hueging, along with his family, purchased a second farm in 2006. The farm consisted of a fifty-cow tie-stall and75kg of quota. From 2013 to 2015, the family herd grew with the arrivals of Jocelyn, Myers and Madden who have proven to be helpful hands around the farm and also show a keen interest in business and agriculture.
Allison is a licensed veterinarian with a focus on preventative bovine medicine. She enjoys educating and helping other producers two days a week, in addition to her co-lead role on the farm. The primary goal of the dairy is to efficiently maximize butterfat per stall by optimizing genetics and environment with an emphasis on calf health. Current Holsteins now milks 80 cows twice daily with a DHI average of 585kg butterfat per lactation. For the beef herd, the focus is to optimize weaning rates by improving genetics and making use of marginal land.
In 2019, Current Holsteins completed its succession plan with Darren and Allison becoming full owners. While they have overcame challenges along the way, the farm has blossomed and now has 156kg of quota and 4000 acres of land which includes 1200ac of forage production to feed both the dairy herd and their 300 cow-calf operation. Current Holstein’s mission is to excel in animal health, sustainably grow the farm and be a positive influence in the community. Darren and Allison are grateful to be apart of the Canadian agriculture industry and farm in Manitoba.
The Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers competition of the Manitoba region had the pleasure to present two diverse and impressive operations during the 2025 regional competition. The recognized candidates were:

The event was well attended and the region was pleased to have Manitoba’s Agricultural Minister, Honourable Ron Kostyshyn, in attendance to present the award.

Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers competition is an annual competition aimed at rewarding the farmers who demonstrate excellence in their profession and promoting agriculture’s huge contribution. Open to participants aged 18 to 39 years old, whose major source of income comes from agricultural sources, participants are selected from seven regions in Canada, and two national winners are chosen each year. The program is sponsored nation-ally by Agriculture Canada, CIBC, John Deere, Bayer, Sollio Agriculture, Meridian Manufacturing, and CN with medias sponsors Glacier FarmMedia, and WS and video sponsor Bamboo Shoots. It is supported nationally by BDO.
Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers of 2025 will be chosen during the national competition that will be held in Toronto, ON, from November 27th to 30th 2025.
